POLITICAL SCIENCE

   The Department of Political Science offers education in the system of full-time studies and extramural studies at the first cycle (BA) studies and second cycle (MA) studies. 

 

FIRST CYCLE (BA) STUDIES 

    First cycle studies last 6 terms (3 years) in the system of full-time studies. In the academic year 2017/2018 candidates can choose the following specializations:

■ Public Security;

    The graduate in the specialization has comprehensive knowledge in the area of public security from the legal, political and institutional perspectives. The knowledge regarding the theory of security, the legal aspects of public security, organized crime and intelligence agencies constitutes the basis of the graduate's professional qualifications for work in central government and local administration, local government organizations and uniformed services.

■ Information and Media Management;

    The graduate in the specialization has comprehensive knowledge in the area of the mass media, journalism, gathering and processing information, social communication, press law, copyright, and journalistic rhetoric. By participating in journalistic workshops, the graduate has acquired professional qualifications for work in organizations and institutions of the public and social sector connected with gathering and managing information and contacts with the media.

■ Public Relations and Political Marketing

    The graduate in the specialization has comprehensive knowledge in the area of Public Relations and Political Marketing, as well as lobbying, organizing and running political campaigns. The graduate has acquired professional qualifications for work in political parties, non-governmental organizations, and the mass media (the press, radio, TV).

■ International Politics and Communications

    The specialization courses acquaint students with the general and specific aspects of federalism, international public law, political campaigns and political systems. They provide students with the general knowledge about civil society, media and politics in Europe, Canada and United States of America. The graduate in the specialization is prepared to work in public and international organizations, organizations of civil society and in the mass media.

    The studies are conducted according to the programmes of studies developed in line with the Higher Education Act, the National Qualifications Framework for Political Science, and programmes of study worked out by the Board of the Faculty of Education for each specialization.

 Cybersecurity

The graduate in the specialization has comprehensive knowledge in the area of information protection in cybers-space. They can build up active and efficient security strategies for organizations and public institutions. They can also recognize and analyze cyber threats on the national as well as the international levels. They will also successfully apply methodology and devices for cyber crime prevention. The graduate of the specialization will hold the ability to use the potential of secret services in order to counteract cyber terrorism and they can manage information security efficiently. They will also know the elementary methodology of cryptography (they will ba able to encode data). They can also manage cyber risk in business environment as well as critical infrastructure. The graduate will be familiar with the environment of cyber space, will be able to use devices for discovering and risk elimination in the cyber space. The graduate can also recognize and react to cyber space incidents according to the regulations described in the normative references with the special focus on cyber attacks as well as any activity of terrorist nature.

■ Security Logistics 

The graduate in the specialization has comprehensive, indispensible knowledge within the area of the concept of logistics and security in the context of the latest policy theories. They are able to recognize and are familiar with normative references and official duties of state services responsible for both internal and external security of the state. The graduate will have possessed the knowledge the elementary methodology of risk management in security as well as logistic conditions concerning ensuring security and both society protection and critical infrastructure management. They will also posses the abilities to interpret and apply the existing legal norms of of Polish and international law (bilateral agreements) within the area of terrorist threat counteract. The graduate will possess the ability to manage the logistic process in the field of widely understood public security. They can plan the logistic process of various civil population and critical infrastructure protection actions in the context of using theoretical knowledge within the area of official duties as well as various state services competences. They will also possess elementary competences in the area of counteracting terrorism and threats for public security of The Republic of Poland. Within the course of specialization the graduate will acquire the social competences in the aspect of their readiness for working as logistics specialist for public security.

SECOND CYCLE (BA) STUDIES

    Second cycle studies last 4 terms (2 years) in the system of full-time studies . In the academic year 2016/2017 candidates can choose the following specializations:

■ National Security;

    The graduate in the specialization has extensive knowledge in the area of public security, especially international security. The knowledge regarding foreign policy and security, geopolitics and dealing with conflicts constitutes the basis of the graduate's professional qualifications for work in international institutions and organizations, information centres and the mass media.

■ The Media, Advertising and Promotion in the Public Sphere;

    The graduate in the specialization has extensive knowledge in the area of mass media, advertising and promotional strategies. The knowledge regarding public relations, media monitoring, strategies and running political campaigns constitutes the basis of the graduate's professional qualifications for work in political parties, the mass media and political counselling.

■ Political Analysis;

    The graduate in the specialization has qualifications for conducting a thorough analysis of policy in various areas, selecting suitable data sources, performing a critical analysis of gathered materials and modelling various solutions to problems. The graduate in the specialization is prepared to work in public administration, analytical institutions or as a commentator of current socio-political affairs.

 Cybersecurity

    The studies are conducted according to the programmes of studies developed in line with the Higher Education Act, the National Qualifications Framework for Political Science, and programmes of study worked out by the Board of the Faculty of Education for each specialization.

ADMINISTRATION AND PUBLIC POLICY

 

    Studying Administration and Public Policy offers a possibility to acquire knowledge and skills in the area of public policy and administration, which allows the graduate to comprehend challenges and to develop the most effective strategies aiming at providing citizens with the most conductive conditions of development. Knowledge of administration allows for practical applications of the best solutions.
    The knowledge, skills and social competences acquired in the course of study prepare the graduate to independent work in the institutions of central government and local administration, as well as other forms of public administration (including non-governmental organizations).

Extramural classes and lectures are held on Saturdays.

■ Local Government Administration and UE Funding;

    The graduate in the specialization is prepared to work in local administration institutions and offices. The graduate also has comprehensive knowledge in the area of obtaining additional funds for local governments and is prepared for developing and managing projects co-financed by the European funds.

■ Public Administration and Civil Service;

    The graduate in the specialization is prepared to work in central government institutions and offices. The graduate has comprehensive knowledge in the area of the functioning of the state and its services taking into account the political context and is well-prepared for effective and impartial work in the country's best interest.

■ Public Policy Analyst and Coordinator;

    The graduate in the specialization is thoroughly prepared to conduct analyses in the area of various public policies and to coordinate activities in this area. The graduate is prepared to work in state institutions and local governments, in which the ability to notice the complexity of the functioning of central government and local administration is particularly desired.

■ Administration and Public Policy in the European Union; 

   The graduate understands the complex reality of current social and political issues and systems in the European Union. By graduation, a student should be well-acquainted with institutional and administrative dimensions of the EU. He or she should understand the need of using interdisciplinary approach when analysing public issues concerning European integration and will have analytical and English language skills better developed. This knowledge and understanding should help to prepare the graduate for work in institutions of the European Union as well as in public administration of member states, especially in areas connected with the European integration.

SECOND CYCLE (BA) STUDIES

 

    Second cycle studies last 4 terms (2 years) in the system of both full-time studies and extramural studies. In the academic year 2017/2018 candidates can choose the following specializations:

■ Government Administration and Creation of Public Policy;

The graduate in the specialization has extensive knowledge in the area of government administration structures and the state services as well as the ways of planning and conducting public policies and the interconnections occurring between them and their significance for the state functioning. The graduate has abilities to analyze and suggest solutions to problems within the area of government administration and they are aware of the significance of the challenges occurring in its functioning.

The graduate of the specialization is prepared to work in government administration institutions and offices, analytical institutions as well as think-tanks dealing with researching and analyzing the process of creating and introducing public policies. 

■ Local Government and Development;

The graduate in the specialization has extensive knowledge of the principles of functioning of local government system and they also possess advanced knowledge of the issues of implementation of local and regional policies conducted by local government administration. The graduate has abilities to analyze and suggest solutions to problems within the area of local government administration and they are aware of the significance of the challenges occurring in its functioning.

The graduate of the specialization is prepared particularly to work in local government institutions and offices on various levels (communal, district and provincial levels) as well as advisory institutions and the ones supporting local government bodies.
